Tropical Storm Nicole aftermath: Essential information for Jacksonville, Duval County

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As Jacksonville continues to deal with the aftermath of Tropical Storm Nicole, City Leaders continue to collaborate with local and state agencies to monitor for any potential impacts.

Here is information provided by the City of Jacksonville:

UPDATES:

  • Duval County’s Local State of Emergency will end Saturday, Nov. 12 at 8 AM.
  • The biggest concern remains rough surf and tide conditions. Citizens are encouraged to stay out of standing water and the ocean.
  • City Offices will be closed Friday, Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day.
  • JTA has resumed normal Friday operations.
  • The St. Johns River Ferry will resume operations Friday, Nov. 11 at 12 PM.
  • The make-up day for Thursday’s Curbside garbage, recycling, bulk and yard waste collections will be Saturday, Nov. 12.
  • Friday’s curbside garbage, recycling, bulk and yard waste collections will occur as normal.
  • The following Shelters will be closed Friday, Nov. 11 by 5 PM.
  • The Legends Center
  • Landmark Middle

Duval County’s Local State of Emergency will end Saturday, Nov. 12 at 8 AM.

Duval County remains under a Coastal Flood Warning until Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 PM.

The biggest concern for Duval County is Surf Conditions and Coastal Flooding.

Have evacuations been ordered?

No.

Is the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activated?

The EOC activated Thursday, Nov. 10 at 8 AM.

Are schools closed?

Schools have returned to their normal schedule. Friday, Nov. 11 is closed in honor of Veteran’s Day.

Are government offices closed?

City Offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 10, and Friday, Nov. 11.

Starting Wednesday, Nov 9. the 630-CITY (2489) information line will be open to the public 24 hours a day throughout the duration of the storm.

All Jacksonville Public Library branches will be closed Thursday, Nov. 10 and Friday, Nov 11. They will reopen Saturday, Nov. 12.

Animal Care and Protective Services (ACPS) are open Thursday, Nov. 10, 12 – 7 PM, Friday, Nov. 11, 12 – 4 PM, Saturday, Nov. 12, 10 AM – 6 PM, and Sunday, Nov. 13, 10 AM – 6 PM.

Are there changes to public transportation?

JTA has resumed normal operations.

The Ferry will resume normal operations Friday Nov. 11 at 12 PM.

Is the airport closed?

The airport is currently open. Officials will continue to monitor weather conditions. Passengers are encouraged to check their airline’s flight status for the most up-to-date information.

Are the beaches closed?

Beaches are currently open. However, there are red flag, high hazard conditions, and citizens are asked to stay out of the water.

Are parks closed?

Huguenot Park is currently closed.

The Jacksonville Beach Pier closed starting Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 12 PM.

Hanna Park has reopened.

What events have been cancelled?

The Veterans Day Parade and Breakfast, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 11 have been cancelled.

The Jacksonville Fair will be closed Thursday, Nov. 10, and will reopen Friday, Nov. 11 at 3 PM.

Will bridges close?

All bridges are open. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) works closely with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol to monitor wind conditions at area bridges. If winds exceed specified levels, FDOT will work with law enforcement to close affected bridges. Any bridge closures will be communicated via local media channels, social media, the City website (www.COJ.net) and the JaxReady mobile app.

Who do I call if my lights are out? Power outages are likely with this storm. JEA will work to restore power when it is safe to do so. Electrical outages and service issues can be reported to JEA at (904) 665-6000 or online at JEA.com.

Will garbage and recycling collection remain on schedule? The makeup day for Thursday’s curbside garbage, recycling, bulk and yard waste collections will be Saturday, Nov. 12.

Friday’s curbside garbage, recycling, bulk and yard waste collections will run on a normal schedule.

What types of debris will be picked up by Solid Waste? All standard solid waste collection rules apply with a 5 cubic yard waste limit. Any changes or exceptions to these rules as result of the storm will be communicated via local media channels, social media, the City website (www.COJ.net) and the JaxReady mobile app.

Will emergency shelters be open?

Landmark Middle School and the Legends Center will be closing Friday, Nov. 11.

Drivers should treat malfunctioning or out-of-service traffic lights as 4-way stops.
