CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Beginning today, Friday, October 28, and running through Saturday, November 5, Clay County residents can cast their ballots for the General Mid-term Elections.
Seven sites located throughout the County will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 pm. Secure Ballot Intake Station “Drop Boxes” will be located inside each Early Voting site during early voting hours.
The last day to request a Vote by Mail ballot is Saturday, October 29. Mail-in ballots must be received in the Elections Office by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8.
Supervisor of Elections for Clay County, Chris. H. Chambless, describes the process of early voting as convenient.
“With seven locations placed throughout the County, early voting will continue to be an asset to our voters,” he said. “Voters can also go to earlyvote Clay.com and see real wait times and make the decision as to which one is in your travels and what the wait times are for that location.”
Chambless said that because we are such a mobile society, early voting is a great way to give voters the option to vote in any of the “seven locations for eight straight days for 10 hours straight including Saturday and Sunday.”
“It’s just another way that we hope to be able to combat apathy,” he continued.
A provisional ballot will be given to anyone lacking a valid photo and signature ID. According to Chambless, the law states the signature must matche what’s on file in order for the provisional ballot to count without interruption.
“Again, another great tool to have the security of presenting an identification with an option to verify that eligiblity to make sure that vote is counted,” he said.
Chambless said that with a gubernatorial and senate race at hand, he expects voter turnout to be “strong.”
“In Clay County, we have three constitutional amendments, three charter amendments and one school board referendum,” he concluded. “I’m forever hopeful for a 100 percent turnout. I would love a record turnout but I predict it will remain between the low to mid 60 percentile.”
