Early voting kicks off tomorrow in Clay County for the Florida presidential preference primary.
Clay County Supervisor of Elections Chris Chambless says it’s important to remember it’s a closed primary in Florida, so not everyone gets to vote.
“It’s available just for those who are registered within the Democratic party and those who are registered within the Republican party,” Chambless says.
He says early voting runs Friday through March 14 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. Judging by the mail-in ballots they’ve received so far, Chambless says it looks like the voter turnout in Clay County will be higher this year for the primary than it was in 2016.
“We typically run around a 40 to 55 percent turnout in a presidential preference primary,” he says.
People looking to vote early in Clay County can go to one of these six locations: The Orange Park Library, the Fleming Island Library, the Supervisor of Elections Office, the Middleburg Civic Center, Keystone Heights City Hall or the Eagle Landing Residents Club.
