Jacksonville — Electronic Arts has announced they will give $1 million to the victims and the families of the Sunday mass shooting at Jacksonville Landing.
EA is the company behind the video gaming Madden. The shooting took place at a gaming bar inside of Chicago Pizza, where a Madden tournament was taking place.
In a tweet, EA said details are forthcoming, but they have already set up a fund called and livestream community event they are calling, “Jacksonville Tribute.”
EA says the kicked off the contribution the to fund with a donation. “First, we’re making a $1 million contribution to support the victims of last Sunday’s events,” they share in their statement. “We’re also working to set up a fund where others can contribute alongside our donation, and we will come back very soon with further details.”
The gaming company also said there will be a livestream next Thursday. EA says they hope the stream will, “show that this horrific event will not define us, but only serve to make our community stronger.”
Two people were shot and killed, and several injured before the shooter killed himself Sunday. Many of the people were competing in a Madden Classic qualifier tournament. The remaining tournaments have been cancelled by EA while they reevaluate safety protocols.
