JACKSONVILLE, Fla — “Sonic Live in Concert” will be making a stop in Jacksonville. The concert event, celebrating the 35th birthday of the iconic video game character Sonic the Hedgehog, will be at the Florida Theatre on October 29. The show will feature an ensemble playing classic hits from the beloved franchise. I got the chance to sit down with conductor Shelbie Rassler ahead of the upcoming show to talk about the blue blur as well as the art of conducting.

“There’s certainly a lot of responsibility going into this tour because Sonic is so beloved as a character, as a franchise,” said Rassler on taking the helm. “There are so many super fans of Sonic, people who know the music intimately well and haven’t had the chance to see it live. So this is a really, really exciting opportunity for so many people who grew up listening to this music from early childhood, and they could be middle-aged now; it’s been 35 years here, so it’s a big responsibility, but it’s something we’re super excited to share with audiences around the world and get to have this awesome, immersive experience into the Sonic universe.”
