JACKSONVILLE, Fla.— If you spend most of your weekend nights in the downtown area, don't plan on using the Main Street Bridge this weekend and next.
As part of an ongoing improvement project, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will be closing down the Main Street Bridge beginning this weekend from 6:30 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Saturday.
In addition to this weekends closure, the bridge will also be closed next weekend from 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb 24 to 6 a.m. Sunday, Feb 26.
All vehicle and pedestrian traffic will detour to the Acosta Bridge, and signs will be set in place to direct traffic safely through the detour.
Boaters will not be affected by the closures.
The closures are necessary to continue replacement of mechanical components, the electrical control system, sidewalk and traffic gates, the lighting protection system and traffic cameras.
The $10.7 million project is expected to be completed this spring.
