FHP finds and arrests driver who they say hit and killed motorcyclist on Beach Boulevard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the suspected driver’s name in a deadly hit and run is Edwin Rumaldo Almendares Amaya.


Jail logs show that driver is being held on charges of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a crash without rendering aid and operating a vehicle without a driver’s license, causing death or serious bodily injury.

A black Tahoe came from behind, did not stop and hit both motorcyclists

That driver left the scene, but on Friday morning FHP announced they found the car and arrested the driver.

Action News Jax Law and Safety Expert Dale Carson weighed in on those charges.

“When you hit somebody like that you are required by law to stop and render aid if possible and certainly notify authorities,” Carson said.

Zachary Kuhn is remembering his friend after he said he was hit and killed in a motorcycle crash Thursday night on Beach Boulevard.

“He was a really, really good young man, very nice, very calm, he really didn’t deserve this,” Zachary Kuhn, a local motorcyclist, said.

The family identified 28-year-old Lester Bagaligog as the motorcyclist killed in this crash. He went by the name Nico,

Another local motorcyclist wants to spread a safety message to drivers.

“We’re going to try and do better as bikers to be more safe, and if you all as car drivers of cars, trucks anything else of an automobile, can just look out for us a little bit more,” Steven Fair, a local motorcyclist, said.
