FHP investigating deadly crash involving pedestrian in Middleburg

Jacksonville, FL — Charges are pending as the Florida Highway Patrol investigates a deadly crash involving a pedestrian in Middleburg.

The crash happened just before 6:30 a.m. on Palmetto Street and SR-21/Blanding Boulevard. According to a preliminary crash report, a 77-year-old man was attempting to cross at Palmetto in a cross walk when the driver of a Chevy Silverado hit him.

FHP says the truck had been stopped at a red light and was turning northbound onto Blanding as the pedestrian was crossing the road.

The pedestrian has not been publicly identified as FHP was contacting his family members, but we have confirmed he lived in Middleburg.  The driver, who is from Jacksonville, is not being named by WOKV as he has not been charged with a crime at this point.

Traffic was delayed for multiple hours but northbound lanes reopened around 9 a.m.

This is a developing story, check back throughout the morning for updates.
