Jacksonville, FL — Investigators are piecing together what led to a deadly fire in northwest Jacksonville on Monday evening. Firefighters were called to Messer Road near the Trout River, and neighbors reported hearing a pop before seeing the fire.
When firefighters made it inside they found a person dead. The fire is not believed to be suspicious at this time, however the investigation is in its early stages.
The victim’s father tells Action News Jax Reporter Brittney Donovan that his son, 57-year-old Robert Taylor, lived alone in the mobile home.
A neighbor ran over to try and help but the smoke was too strong for him to get inside, according to the victim’s father.
Crews responded to the 8600 block of Messer rd to a single family residence....unfortunately there was a fatality in this fire.
