First Alert Weather Day Saturday as Isaias moves inland

First Alert Weather Day Saturday for strong afternoon storms First Alert Meteorologist Trevor Gibbs is tracking a hot, humid, and stormy Saturday.

The Action News Jax First Alert Weather Team has declared a First Alert Weather Day due to an isolated severe storm threat in our area.

  • This morning is damp with a few spotty showers, some heavy along coastal Southeast Georgia.
  • Isaias is quickly moving inland across Alabama with heavy rain bands spiraling around it across Georgia and Florida.
  • Later today, some of these rainbands could intensify into strong or severe thunderstorms as they move across our local area.
  • The main storm hazards will be very heavy rain that can cause flooding, frequent lightning strikes, and short-lived tornado potential.
  • Many neighborhoods have seen at least 12″ of rain so far this month, and the ground is completely saturated. Any additional rainfall will quickly cause flooding.
  • A few more morning showers/isolated storms are possible Sunday morning before much drier air finally filters into the region.
  • Next week looks really nice—much less humid, dry, sunny, and comfortable.

  • Isaias will continue to weaken through today, but will still bring a risk of flooding and thunderstorms across the Southeast.
  • No other areas of concern in the Atlantic.
