FLEMING ISLAND. Fla. — The Florida Department of Health in Clay County has expanded its clinical services to include school and sports physicals along with electrocardiogram screenings. The expanded offerings arrive as local students prepare to register for spring sports.
The physicals and electrocardiograms, also known as EKGs, align with upcoming state requirements. Florida law mandates EKG screenings for student-athletes in public high schools starting in the 2026-2027 school year.
DOH-Clay Health Officer Heather Huffman highlighted the department’s goal of offering accessible health care options to local families. “This initiative is part of our commitment to the health and well-being of our youth and DOH-Clay’s mission to meet the public health needs of our Clay County residents while keeping costs down,” Huffman said.
Along with student services, the department offers health care options targeted at adults. DOH-Clay provides adult services including annual physical exams, health screenings, EKGs, chronic disease management, and referrals for smoking cessation.
