TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Gasoline prices in Florida might have temporarily peaked as supplies have mostly recovered from flooding that caused widespread problems in South Florida.
The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Florida was $3.64 on Monday, down 7 cents from a week earlier, according to the AAA auto club. Heavy rains and flooding in South Florida last month hindered supply chains.
However, fuel supplies in Florida have stabilized, and the fuel market has cooled off in recent weeks, according to AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins.
The West Palm Beach, Naples, and Homosassa Springs areas had the highest average gas prices, while parts of the Panhandle had the lowest prices due to the localization of the floodwaters in the south.
The national average price for gasoline was $3.61 a gallon on Monday.
Noting that the national average has gone down over the past week, AAA spokesman Andrew Gross said prices might have peaked “for now” at the pump. Gross said, “As long as the oil cost keeps wobbling around the low- to mid-$70s per barrel, drivers will benefit when they fuel up.”
The state average was up 16 cents from a month ago but 54 cents lower compared to one year ago.
The drop in gas prices comes as a relief to Florida residents, who were facing high fuel prices due to supply chain disruptions caused by heavy flooding.
As supplies have been restored and the fuel market has cooled off, motorists in Florida and across the United States can expect some relief at the pump.
