The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating what caused a deadly car crash in Gilchrist County, just west of Gainesville, on Saturday involving 4 young adults from Jacksonville. FHP says the group was leaving Bob's River Place in Branford when the Impala they were in collided with an SUV at the intersection of County Road 340 and U.S. 129. Troopers say Isabella Garcia, Cameron Bell, Hayden Raulerson, and Alysia Littlejohn were not wearing their seat belts. Troopers say all the victims were between the ages of 18 and 21. FHP says another person was in the car at the time of the crash and they remain in the hospital in critical condition. The driver of the SUV which was involved in the crash was seriously hurt.
Robert Garcia the father of one of the victims, Isabella Garcia, says its not like her to not have her seat belt on.
“Put the phones down when you’re driving, um, buckle up.” Garcia says.
Garcia describes the moments when he got the phone call from troopers no parent wants to get.
“I’m sorry, but your baby didn’t make it.” Garcia says.
He says it was very sad.
“It’s the hardest thing for a dad is to, um, get told that your daughters gone.” Garcia says.
Isabella was studying nursing at USF.
Her mother, Trisha Garcia, says days before her daughter passed away she went to the beach.
“She said mom I’m gonna go watch the sunrise, its what makes my soul happy.” Garcia says.
The families of the 4 victims are making funeral plans, and Isabella will be laid to rest Thursday at 11am at Palms Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville Beach.
FHP says they may not have a conclusion for the cause of the crash for more than 90 days because of complexity and extent of the scene.
