This “shared use path” is over 4,000 feet long and has an estimated final cost of $20 million, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. Additionally, it will feature panoramic views of the downtown Jacksonville skyline, while providing a way for residents and tourists to travel between two of the cities most bustling areas without needing a car.

Originally slated to be completed in the fall or summer of 2022 according to the Downtown Investment Authority’s website, the Fuller Warren Bridge “shared use path” is finally near its open. However, it’s had some delays along the way.

Daryl Goss with the Florida Department of Transportation says the main factor was supply chain issues.

“The construction industry has been dealing with material shortages and this project was no different,” Goss said.

Now, the trail is set to open on Thursday, with a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m.

Matt Fall, a bicycle and pedestrian coordinator with the city’s transportation planning division, says he expects the over 4,000 foot long trail to be a true game changer.

“This is the first one that’s going to be downtown, getting people to jobs, getting them to the Riverside arts market, getting them to actual destinations,” Fall said. “It’s really safe and comfortable, gives people a new option to get around, and it’s just amazing.”
