Jacksonville FL — UPDATE: On Thursday evening, Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry announced on Twitter that the city had distributed the COVID-19 vaccines that it had been allotted. He says this means the Lane Wiley and Mandarin Senior Centers are now closed to new patients looking to get their first dose of the vaccine. He says if you received your first dose at either one of these senior centers, you will still receive your second dose at the same location.

ORIGINAL STORY: On Thursday Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry announced changes were coming to the two city-run vaccination sites beginning today. He says Friday is the last day they will offer the first dose of the vaccines at either the Lane Wiley or Mandarin Senior Centers for people 65 and older or front-line healthcare workers. Earlier this week we reported when the mayor said that the two city-run sites were in danger of ending first dose vaccines if the city didn’t receive more vaccines from the state.

Curry says effective immediately the city is waiving the birth month requirement at both vaccination sites. Typically people with July or August birthdays were able to get vaccinated on Thursdays and September or October birthdays were for Friday. Curry says the change is due to lower turnout and short lines. The City of Jacksonville says they hope to have the normal 975 vaccine allotment split between both sites on Friday, but they won’t know for sure until the morning.

Curry says even though the sites will be ending first doses this week, you will be able to get your second dose at either location 21 days after your first dose.

Vaccinations will continue over the coming weeks in Jacksonville, the state will be taking over distribution efforts after the city-run sites close. You can 1-866-200-3762 to make an appointment at the Regency Square Mall and you must be a Florida resident who’s 65 and older or a front-line healthcare worker to get vaccinated.
