Jacksonville, FL — The President of Florida State College at Jacksonville has announced her retirement, effective May 31st.

Dr. Cynthia Bioteau says she inherited a broken system four years ago and turned it into a college that centers on access, equity, diversity, and quality education.

In a letter to the FSCJ Board of Trustees, Bioteau highlighted several accomplishments since taking over in 2014 including ushering the college out of probation imposed by the U.S. Department of Education as an additional consequence for the financial aid crisis.

Bioteau took over after a tumultuous period under former President Steven Wallace, which included inappropriate distribution of financial aid to students and allegations of improper spending.

The Florida Inspector General found a likely ethics violations by Wallace.

Bioteau also highlighted the creation of the FSCJ Promise financial support program for Duval and Nassau County graduates to graduate debt-free, calling it a first of its kind in the state of Florida.

“I am proud of the work over the last four years that FSCJ leadership, faculty, staff, and students contributed to the revitalization and building of the community of Jacksonville”, wrote Bioteau.
