Jacksonville FL — If you can hold off, wait to fill up your gas tank.

Gas prices are expected to keep dropping in Jacksonville due to the Wall Street sell-off over coronavirus concerns. Patrick De Haan with Gas Buddy says he thinks average prices could drop anywhere between 10-15 cents a gallon over the next 5-7 days unless the markets turn around.

“I think it’s just a matter of time, uh, potentially by the weekend or in the weekend, that we see the first station in Jacksonville under $2 a gallon.” De Haan says.

He says prices usually start to rise this time of year due to refinery maintenance and the switch to summer gasoline, but the virus has pushed back that increase due to gas demand falling. Despite the delay, he says you can expect to pay more by Memorial Day.

If you need to get gas now, De Haan suggests putting in a quarter of a tank, so that way you can get to the weekend when prices are lower.

“From time to time we see stations, kind of uh, out pacing each other more eager to pull in volume and that could lead to some small or potentially big prices wars, so keep your eyes out on that. That could drive prices very low very quickly.” De Haan says.

Right now according to Gas Buddy Jacksonville has some of the lowest prices for gas in the entire state. Specifically, those low prices are at stations on the southside and at the beaches.
