“Gator” is back in Jacksonville’s bowl game

Jacksonville, FL — They want to honor the “longstanding tradition” of the game, which is in its 74th year.

“Gator” is being restored to the name of Jacksonville’s annual college football bowl game, which will now be known as the “TaxSlayer Gator Bowl”.

The game is one of the longest continually-held bowl games in the US, founded in 1946 as the Gator Bowl. TaxSlayer remains the title sponsor, saying they’re honored to be a continued partner.

Every year, a team from the SEC faces an opponent from either the Big Ten, ACC, or Notre Dame. It's played at EverBank Field, which will be called TIAA Bank Field by the time the game is played.

The date and time of the next game have not yet been announced, but it will be televised on the ESPN family of networks, according to Gator Bowl Sports. Tickets will go on sale in September.
