‘Glad to be alive’: Duval County Property Appraiser Jerry Holland thankful following hospitalization

Jacksonville, Fl — Saying he is doing ‘awesome’, Duval County Property Appraiser Jerry Holland praised the Mayo Clinic for their care during his recent hospitalization. Holland’s wife is still hospitalized with COVID-19. His son also tested positive for the coronavirus but wasn’t hospitalized.

Holland traced his diagnosis to a brief interaction with a staff member at his office who was sick.

“Just that three or four minutes in her small office was just an incubator with the COVID”, Holland said. Within a day he was feeling symptoms. While he was never put on a ventilator, Holland says he did require oxygen during his hospitalization.

Overall, his office had 7 employees test positive, none had to be hospitalized other than him.

Holland says neither he nor his wife had received the COVID vaccine because of the small circle of contacts they have.

“I would use any tool in the toolbox. But everybody’s different. And I say that because you need to consult with your physician”, Holland said.

He plans to get vaccinated at some point, saying that he doesn’t want to go through this experience again.
