The Green Cove Springs Police Department has a dog on the force for the first time in the history of the agency.
The Grit Foundation donated K9 Grit to help establish the new unit, and the 13-month-old German shepherd will now spend time getting know K9 Officer Garrett Crider.
“The Grit Foundation has made it possible for the Green Cove Springs Police Department to embark on this adventure,” says Police Chief Derek Asdot.
The foundation has been the official charity of the Green Cove Springs Police Department since February, and K9 Grit was purchased for $7,500 from Valor Working Dogs.
K9 Grit will be a dual-purpose working dog and has to complete 480 hours of training starting in August.
