Investigatory Committee votes to issue subpoenas to Tim Baker

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The City Council special investigatory committee on JEA voted Monday morning to issue subpoenas to Tim Baker and his five companies/businesses.

Tim Baker was a political analyst for Mayor Lenny Curry and a consultant for Florida Power & Light during the time JEA was discussing their potential sale.

Baker was interviewed by the committee’s special counsel on Sept. 8 however, the counsel, Stephen Busey, was not satisfied with the interview. Busey sent a memo to the investigatory committee last Thursday saying that Baker did not answer their questions about his specific commitment with FPL and the documents they requested were refused by Baker. The documents that were not given to the committee include the contracts with NextEra Energy or with FPL, invoices and billing statements for any work regarding JEA, documents that describe or identify any payments received for work regarding JEA, documents regarding JEA that was exchanged between Baker and any employee, agent, contractor, ore representative of NextEra Energy or FPL, any documents regarding JEA that he exchanged with Sam Mousa, Brian Hughes, Michael Weinstein, Patrick "Joey: Greive, Michael Munz, or Mayor Lenny Curry.

“Because of the apparent conflict of interest in Mr. Baker’s participation in structuring JEA’s sale process, while at the same time consulting with a potential bidder in that sale process, the Committee determined it should inquire into Mr. Baker’s relationship with FPL," the memo stated.

The five companies that the subpoena will extend to include BCSP, LLC, Conventus, LLC, Data Targeting Research, LLC, Timothy Baker Consulting, LLC, and Baker Law Group, PLLC.

The subpoenas will be issued if the Rules Committee passes it next week.
