Jacksonville approves refunding some Irma-related permit fees

Giving you some relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.

The Jacksonville City Council has passed a bill that allows you to get refunds for certain permit fees you paid to deal with storm repairs. Property owners can get city-related building inspection fees connected with permit applications reimbursed for non-structural roofing material repairs and certain electrical service repairs on existing structures. You must apply for the permit before the end of the year, but the refund also applies for applications dating back to September 11.

To receive the reimbursement, you must apply and attest that the damage was done as a result of Irma. You can learn more about the steps you need to take by contacting the Building Inspection Division at 904-630-1100. You can submit the reimbursement request through the end of February.

The Council hopes the refund not only gives you a break, but will incentivize you to get repairs done more quickly.

The City has set aside close to $750,000 for these reimbursements.
