When the Jacksonville Armada kicks off its inaugural season, it won’t just be on any field.
Under the contract the team reached with the City to use the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville as their home stadium, the team is allowed to pursue naming rights for the field itself. WOKV has now confirmed a naming rights agreement has been reached.
The name only applies to Armada games, not Jacksonville Suns games.
Details- including how much the agreement will be worth, whether the full value will go to the team, and who the sponsor is- are expected to be released next week. The agreement reached by the team is still subject to approval by Jacksonville’s City Council.
The City recently agreed to pay the Armada $1 million this year as part of their lease agreement to play at the Baseball Grounds. The money covers $300,000 in one-time expenditures- like investing in a removable baseball mound and sign and camera staging- and more funding to go to converting the field between baseball and soccer. The Armada pays the City a certain surcharge on each ticket which they estimate will cover the cost of most operating expenses that the team does not specifically cover.
