Jacksonville, FL — Jacksonville Beach City Commissioner Corey Nichols says he is ‘disappointed’ that 4th of July fireworks will not happen as scheduled.

“I fought like heck to delay this decision to no avail”, Nichols said in a Facebook post on Monday.

Nichols told Action News Jax the cancellation was Mayor Charlie Latham’s decision and he decided to cancel due to the fact there is still a state of emergency in effect and he doesn’t want to attract a crowd to Jacksonville Beach.

The City of Jacksonville is discussing its July 4th fireworks celebration on Tuesday.  Nichols said he believes Jacksonville Beach leaders should have waited for City’s decision first.
