Could it be Amazon?
The city of Jacksonville won't confirm just yet, but whoever it is could be getting a lot of tax dollars to set up shop near Jacksonville International Airport.
The mysterious plan known as "Project Rex" continues to move forward after the Jacksonville City Council unanimously approved over $13 million in incentives during last night's meeting.
Add another $5 million or so from the state and that could land an employer who City Councilman Reggie Gaffney says could have the same kind of local impact as the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"This is going to give so many youth opportunities to really work and make an honest living," Gaffney added.
City Council President Greg Anderson did promise one thing.
"This is a major employer," Anderson noted. "Somebody that I think we all will recognize."
Project Rex - described in a memo from Mayor Lenny Curry as a "large state of the art fulfillment center" - would create 1,500 permanent jobs in Gaffney's district by 2019. At least 500 of those jobs would have an average salary of $50,000 a year plus benefits.
That same memo doesn't specifically say who the company is, but it is described as an employer with over 20 years of experience in retail and e-commerce that currently employs over 200,000 people worldwide.
The ball is now in the mayor's court. He has to approve the incentives before the company will commit to Jacksonville.
It could take several months for the process to play out as the company is also considering other locations.
