Jacksonville, FL — An arrest has now been made, a week after a Jacksonville grandmother was killed in her Westside home.
JSO responded to the home on Beaverbrook Place June 6th, and found 54-year-old Shirley Blakely suffering multiple injuries. JSO's Homicide Unit started investigating, when Blakely was pronounced dead at the scene.
JSO says witnesses led them to Blakely 's neighbor, 24-year-old Darnell Johnson, as a person of interest.
Johnson was arrested the same day on a criminal mischief charge, for allegedly damaging a recording system in an interview room at the Police Memorial Building. Soon after, his bond was revoked on prior pending charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Jail records show a second degree murder charge was added to Johnson's docket on Wednesday.
