Jacksonville, FL — Jameelah Murphy said her son’s gravestone has been vandalized several times over the past two years, and the last act was recorded on camera.

“It hurts real bad,” Murphy said. “It’s a stab in the heart. He’s resting, can my son rest? He did nothing to nobody. The people whose vandalizing never knew my son.”

Murphy’s 19-year-old son, Joerod James Adams, was at a Raines High School football game in August 2018 when someone fired off shots. Adams was hit and killed.

The Jacksonville’s Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged 16-year-old Robert Howard in connection with Adams’ death. He is currently in the Duval County Jail.

Since Adams has been buried at a cemetery off of West Moncrief Road, Murphy said his gravestone has continued to be vandalized. She said the person recorded the latest incident and posted it on his social media. Someone then sent it to Murphy.

“When I saw the video of this young man peeing and spitting on his grave, the last straw was peeing,” Murphy said. “I have to do something about it.”

Action News Jax will not show the video because the content is too graphic. It shows the young man urinating on Adams’ grave while repeating his name.

Murphy reported the incident to JSO. An officer met her out at the cemetery Wednesday morning. She said she believes the person responsible is friends with her son’s killer.

“It’s a lot to take in and I hope I can get through to somebody, vandalizing especially a deceased person’s grave,” Murphy said. “It’s a stab in a mother, father, a loved one’s heart.”
