JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters has filed paperwork to run for reelection. Records from the Duval County Supervisor of Elections Office show Waters, a Republican, faces one challenger, non-party affiliated candidate Donzalo Solomon.

Waters, 55, was elected sheriff in November 2022. He retired from the agency in July 2022 to launch his campaign for sheriff.

Waters first joined the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in 1991 as a correctional officer before graduating from the police academy in August 1993. Over his career with the agency, he served in multiple divisions, including Patrol and Enforcement as well as Homeland Security and Investigations, according to the sheriff’s office website.

Prior to becoming sheriff, Waters served as chief of the Investigations Division, overseeing operations such as Homicide, the Crime Gun Intelligence Center, Violent Crime, Robbery and Cold Cases, the website states.

Jacksonville voters will choose the county’s sheriff in the general election scheduled for May 18.
