Jaguars stun Indy; players remain in locker room for Star Bangled Banner

Jacksonville, Fl — Gardner Minshew threw three touchdown passes, including a 22-yarder to Keelan Cole in the fourth quarter. The Jaguars stunned the Indianapolis Colts, 27-20 at TIAA Bank Field on Sunday.

The Jaguars entered the season as underdogs, and were the only home team on Sunday to welcome fans.

Minshew, a second-year pro, completed 19 of 20 passes for 173 yards and no turnovers. He connected with DJ Chark, rookie Laviska Shenault and Cole for scores.

Philip Rivers threw two interceptions in his debut with Indy.

INDEPTH: Racial injustice themes fill empty NFL stadiums

The Jaguars made a statement on equality before the game. In a statement, the players said their solidarity is stronger than any difference that threatens to divide them.

They stayed in the locker room during the pregame playing of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and “The Star Spangled Banner” to continue raising awareness of racial injustice against the Black community.

The players say they are a brotherhood, united in their desire for change.
