JAX Chamber President encourages small business owners to ‘hold tight’

Jacksonville, FL — Saying the impact of coronavirus on Jacksonville’s economy is too fresh, JAX Chamber President Daniel Davis confirmed some small businesses have begun to lay off employees and that is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

“We’ve got to do whatever we can to help support those (businesses)”, Davis told Jacksonville’s Morning News.

Davis said restaurants and other hospitality-related businesses are feeling the biggest impact right now.  He said the Chamber’s goal is to help businesses understand how to navigate applying for assistance through the state of Florida and the federal stimulus.

“It is too early to talk about what’s needed. I have had conversations with the Mayor. We will be working closely with him on his small business program and I look forward to helping him be successful”, Davis said.

The JAX Chamber recently conducted a survey of what businesses need, and they will release results over the coming weeks. He said the single greatest way you can help is by ordering carry-out from locally owned restaurants as often as you can.

Davis said Jacksonville’s diverse economy should help soften the economic impact and unemployment numbers.

“We are going to bounce back from this. It’s definitely going to be a tough road for a couple months, but we are going to bounce back as a community”, Davis said.

He encouraged small business owners to hang tight, as they work to understand what opportunities are available through the federal stimulus.
