Jacksonville, FL — It's called #JaxRescuersforRescues.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department is teaming up with Animal Care and Protective Services in hopes of finding forever homes for the shelter's cats and dogs.
JFRD Director of Fire Chiefs, Kurt Wilson, says it's essentially a social media campaign.
"So, the idea is this. Every Monday, we send a number of firefighters out that have volunteered to do this and they interact with a certain animal and we post that on our social media. And the idea is for the firefighter to share it on their social media. That creates a different footprint than normally the ACPS gets to," says Willson.
Wilson says the partnership officially kicked off this Monday, with a first group of 15 different animals.
Wilson says the idea was inspired by a similar effort in Fernandina.
"The firefighters in Fernandina started doing this social media blitz with their local humane society. And out of the 50 dogs they showcased, they were able to adopt or find forever homes for 48 of them. That was just such a huge success, so I thought, maybe, we could apply the same thing here," explains Wilson.
Wilson says the ACPS has some great animals looking for a family.
"You realize all they want is attention from a human. They just want to interact with you and they're well-behaved. And your heart breaks for them," says Wilson.
Wilson encourages you to follow JFRD on Twitter, as you might find your new forever friend. You can find that, by clicking HERE.
