Jacksonville, FL — More than six months after a man was reported missing, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says they’ve now found his remains.
Jamel Kelly was reported missing in March, but JSO has previously announced they did not believe he was still alive. In May, Kelly's former step-father, Gerod Studemire, was charged with murder. Kelly's girlfriend, Shaakira Atwater, and his mother, Stacey Studemire, were charged as accessories after the fact.
At the time of those arrests, Kelly’s remains had still not been found.
We told you last week about a large police presence off Pritchard Road, which JSO confirmed was in connection to an ongoing investigation. JSO now confirms that location and a property on West Moncrief Road were both searched in connection to this murder, and Kelly's remains were found in Moncrief. They have been positively identified, according to police.
JSO says they are still working this as an active investigation, so if you have any information about the murder, they’re asking you to contact 904-630-0500 or JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org. You can also submit an anonymous tip and be eligible for a possible reward of up to $3,000 by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
