Jacksonville police arrest a bank robber who left his mark by wearing sunglasses and a variety of wigs during his heists.
On Tuesday, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 44-year-old Robert Claiborne in connection with seven bank and credit union robberies dating back to July 2013.
On Saturday, detectives say a black male suspect walked into a Suntrust Bank on Main street Saturday morning wearing a wig and sunshades.
JSO says it happened around 9:30AM. Detectives tell WOKV the suspect demanded money from a teller before making a fast getaway in his car. Authorities in the area were able to track him down a short time later and take him into custody.
"Low $30,000-range, and that's just a ballpark figure," said Assistant Chief Chris Butler with JSO.
We're told Claiborne does have a criminal history and is linked to six bank robberies in the New Orleans, Louisiana area back in 1996. Asst. Chief Butler says Claiborne confessed to the Jacksonville robberies and identified himself in surveillance photos from each of the banks.
He has been charged with two counts of robbery so far and JSO says he will also be charged with the five others.
