Jacksonville, FL — The Jacksonville Transportation Authority is considering its first batch of fare hikes since 2012, and they’re asking for your input.
Public meetings are taking place through this week, where JTA will outline the hikes and give customers a chance to discuss and give feedback on the plan. The increases would affect all fxed-route bus lines, First Coast Flyer Bus Rapid Transit routes, ReadiRide, and the St. Johns River Ferry.
JTA says they will take the customer feedback in to account, as the Board of Directors then determines whether to move forward. JTA says the increase would mean protection against fluctuating revenue streams like the gas tax, consumer behavior, and other factors, so they can stay financially sustainable.
There is no set date for when the fare increases would take effect, but if approved, they would be the first ones since 2012.
There would be no change to Connexion and Connexion Plus paratransit services, the Skyway, or Senior Rates. You would be able to receive a discounted rate by purchasing your fare through the MyJTA app.
As they consider these hikes, JTA’s Board of Directors will also be looking at a new Automatic Fare Indexing Policy, which would create a more predictable way of setting fares, involving an adjustment every two years based on changes in Consumer Price Index, JTA’s operating budget, and labor costs.
If you cannot attend these meetings, you can also complete a survey from JTA online.
