The Jacksonville Transportation Authority is making it more affordable for local healthcare workers to get to work and back during the coronavirus pandemic. Starting Monday, they’ll be able to ride the city bus for free in Jacksonville.
The initiative is for anyone employed at a hospital, doctor’s office, medical facility or medical laboratory as long as they show a work ID when they got on the bus.
“When you hear the word hospital, people think of the nurse, the doctor,” says JTA spokesman David Cawton. “But I think that we all know that hospitals depend on a lot of different people, [from] the person that greets you at the door, the office personnel, the janitor, everybody that keeps that hospital running, we want to make sure that they are able to receive this complimentary ride.”
He says this is just the latest example of something JTA is doing to make life easier and safer during the pandemic. They're also limiting the number of people allowed on a bus at a time and making sure each bus is cleaned on a regular basis.
JTA has also adapted the bus schedules during the week.
