Jacksonville, FL — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says a certified gang member was shot in the lower leg, barely missing the ankle monitor he was wearing during a shootout between two vehicles.
Officers responded to the shooting just before 9:00 p.m. on Martin Luther King Dr. near Moncrief and stopped a vehicle that had multiple bullet holes in the rear windshield.
Two people were inside the vehicle, and police say both were certified gang members but would not say which gang. An officer on scene said there are active gangs in the area but he wasn’t aware of a gang war.
The man who was wounded, described as being in his early to mid-20’s, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Witnesses told police the other vehicle involved in the shooting was a white minivan that fled the scene. No other description was provided.
Investigators say during a traffic stop they found 2 'certified gang members' in the car. They tell us one of the men had a gunshot wound right above his ankle monitor. pic.twitter.com/0wADq8xOqz
