Liberty Counsel sues to invalidate Jacksonville Human Rights Ordinance

Liberty Counsel filed a lawsuit today to invalidate the Jacksonville Human Rights Ordinance that was adopted on February 14th, 2017.

The lawsuit says the HRO was adopted in violation of Florida Statutes, the Jacksonville Ordinance Code and City Council rules because it omitted language intentionally to deceive people.

The HRO adding sexual orientation and gender identity as protected categories. Liberty Counsel’s Assistant Vice President of Legal Affairs Roger Gannam says it is strictly about how the ordinance was passed, not its moral ground. Gannam says, “But the truth is, this is the same bad ordinance that opens women's private facilities to men, coerces Christian business owners to violate their consciences, and does not solve any actual discrimination problem.”

The City of Jacksonville says it does not comment on pending litigation.
