Jacksonville, Fl — It is the first day of school in Duval County Public Schools. Throughout the day, check back here for updates on how the process went.
8:40 am - Here is the message Duval County Public Schools sent families attending school at home via Duval HomeRoom:
Good morning families, This is Duval County Public Schools contacting you with a message for those of you participating in Duval HomeRoom today. We want to let you know that we are experiencing a delay bringing up Microsoft teams for some online classes, but the problem is being resolved. Many classes and schools are up and running and the rest are coming online. We apologize for the delay and ask for your patience as we launch this across the district. Please continue to check frequently. When you check, be sure to fully log out and then log back in to the system. Also, be assured that there will be no consequence in terms of attendance or academic penalty as a result of this delay. Again, please continue to check Teams frequently to see if service is restored, and if there is any further update, we will contact you. Thanks again for your patience, and we hope that you do have a great first day of school once your classrooms do come up online.
Parents should receive confirmation of their student bus stops in FOCUS through the transportation hotline, according to Duval County Public Schools.
Parents can come to the bus stop that is most convenient to their students until an official bus stop has been assigned to them. Visit the district website here to see the full bus stop list organized by the school.
Students are required to wear a face-covering to board the bus. If parents have not started the process of registering for a bus stop, do so as soon as possible. If you started the process, continue to check for confirmation by checking your FOCUS account or contacting the hotline at 904-858-6200.

August 19 - The City of Jacksonville and Duval Public Schools announced a new project Wednesday that will provide free coronavirus testing for school employees. Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene says the project is for all employees and if they meet the criteria for symptoms then they will be directed to one of the seven locations where they will get a rapid test.
“We will have the results back within 24 hours.” Dr. Greene says.
She says the seven locations will be at seven different high schools throughout the county, one for each school board district, and the testing will be set up as a drive-thru so employees don’t have to go inside any facilities. If an employee tests positive, then Dr. Green says they will implement steps through the health department, like contact tracing, and take the proper steps to prevent the spread of the virus.
Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry says its a $1.5 million project with the city putting in $750,000 and DCPS contributing the other $750,000.
