A man is accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend more than 20 times Wednesday in Atlantic Beach.
Police reports from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office say Justyn Courson stabbed the 19-year-old victim because he was mad about the break-up.
Courson, 24, barricaded himself in his house but eventually surrendered to police, according to the reports.
Courson was taken to UF Health after he cut his own throat. The victim was also taken to UF Health in stable condition.
The woman told police she was forced out of the house the former couple lived in two weeks before the incident, but returned to get her stuff.
She and Courson lived at 2125 Fairway Villas Lane South in Atlantic Beach for the past two years.
Police said Courson grabbed a kitchen knife and started stabbing the woman. The woman was able to escape and run to a neighbor who called for help.
Police arrested Courson and charged him with aggravated battery.
