Man sentenced to life in prison for 2015 fatal shooting of Jacksonville father of five

Jacksonville, FL — Two years after a Jacksonville father of five was gunned down at a Westside gas station, the man convicted of his murder has been sentenced to life in prison, without the possibility of parole.

Dwayne Wimberly, 34, was accused of fatally shooting Troy Colton, as he was pumping air into his car's tires on April 12, 2015.

Investigators say there were prior disagreements between the two men and the groups they associated with prior to the shooting.

On April 12th, they say Wimberly spotted Colton at the gas station and had his girlfriend drop him off around the block. Investigators say Wimberly then proceeeded to sneak up on Colton, shooting him 8 times.

Colton's 2-year-old daughter and her mother were in the car at the time of the shooting.

Wimberly was convicted on a first-degree murder charge.
