Jacksonville, FL — Two separate crashes on opposite directions of the East Beltway have caused problems through the day Monday.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a semi truck hit a pedestrian in the southbound lanes of I-295 at Beach Boulevard, killing the pedestrian. That led to all lanes being closed, but those have since reopened.
The crash report released Monday evening shows that the pedestrian was attempting to cross the lanes of I-295 when they were fatally hit in the right travel lane. The identity of this individual has not been released.
A separate crash involving a jackknifed semi truck is blocking all northbound lanes in that same area. The incident report from FHP says a semi driver in the left lane failed to see traffic slowing, and when he attempted to take evasive action, the semi jackknifed and hit the center guardrail on the median. FHP says the trailer then went back on the highway, where it hit a flatbed and a car.
Nobody involved in the northbound crash was hurt, according to the crash report.
FHP says the driver of the jackknifed semi was cited for careless driving.
