Jacksonville, FL — Jacksonville is aiming to have military flags flying near City Hall within the next two months.
WOKV first told you earlier this month that Mayor Lenny Curry was calling for the flags of the five branches of the military- Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy- to permanently fly in Hemming Park, next to the American flag.
Following his directive, we asked how much the plan will cost, and when the change will take place.
Today, I ordered the city to permanently fly the flags of the five branches of the United States Military; the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy in Hemming Park. That is the front porch of our city. Let them fly.

A City Spokesperson now tells WOKV there is funding available in the Public Works budget to put up the poles, flags, and hardscape for flags from the five military branches and one POW/MIA flag. The estimated cost is between $50,000 and $80,000.
“Mayor Curry believes this investment is a worthy tribute to demonstrate, at the front steps of City Hall, that this community is proud of its military and veteran tradition,” says City Spokeswoman Tia Ford.
She says they expect the installation to be complete by September 30th.
