Not something that local country music fans want to hear.
The Florida Country Superfest will not be returning to Jacksonville in 2016. In fact, the City tells WOKV they don’t expect it back for the foreseeable future.
A statement from Festival Productions, Inc.- who ran the Florida Country Superfest in Jacksonville for the past two years- says they had “a successful two-year run”, but “a change in corporate strategy has led to the creation of an exciting new event for Florida music fans.”
A statement from City of Jacksonville Spokeswoman Marsha Oliver further explains that arrangement.
“While our goal was to certainly continue that event in Jacksonville in future years, we understand that the newly-formed, nationwide partnership between the festival’s promoter, Festival Productions, Inc., and International Speedway Corporation requires them to hold the event at an ICS racetrack,” the statement says.
The new event is the Country 500- “The Great American Music Fest at Daytona”, to be held May 27-29, 2016 at the Daytona International Speedway. The website for the 2015 Florida Country Superfest now redirects to the Country 500 website, and the Florida Country Superfest Facebook page has also posted links promoting the Country 500.
The complete lineup will be unveiled November 3, but some of the performers will include Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum, and Willie Nelson, according to FPI.
The City says they hope to build on the momentum from the past two years of the Florida Country Superfest to continue to pursue events that benefit the area’s economy and build the City’s brand.
