A morning fire at the Beach Bowl on Beach Blvd. west of 3rd Street was quickly brought under control by firefighters from Jacksonville Beach and the city of Jacksonville.
We're told by Jacksonville Fire Rescue three people were evaluated on scene by paramedics and all three refused to be taken to the hospital.
It appears the fire started in the kitchen Tuesday morning and, given the size of the business, could have spread quickly if not for the quick efforts of firefighters.
The Sunrise Surf Shop shares a parking lot with Beach Bowl. Manager Dane Jeffries says they had to close down because of the police and fire activity outside.
"We pulled up at 9 a.m. and just saw a bunch of flames pouring out of the bowling alley and our first instinct was like 'Wow, we need to call the cops' and then all of a sudden the cops piled in, the fire trucks piled in."
Jeffries says the flames were coming out of the 16-foot exhaust fan at the top of the building.
He says and his coworkers saw people running out of the bowling alley and went to see if they needed help but he says they were more in shock than in need of help.
