NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — UPDATE: Appointments have been filled for the week.
Residents in Nassau County can now make an appointment to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
Nassau County Director of Emergency Management Greg Foster told Jacksonville’s Morning News that the county will hand out appointments through Eventbrite, allowing people to get a ‘ticket’ and then receive directions by email on how to confirm their appointment and where.
Walk-in requests will not be allowed and only one person per appointment is allowed. According their website, couples and family members must each make a separate appointment.
“We don’t want the long lines out in the elements, especially when we’re dealing with at risk populations. In addition to that, we have a finite amount of vaccines at this point, just like everything else with us being unprecedented, the demand for the vaccine is also going to be unprecedented. It’s going to take a little while for supply to catch up with demand,” Foster said. “Therefore, we’re trying to manage expectations by having an amount of vaccines available.”
The vaccines are only open for health care workers and people ages 65 and older. The vaccinations will take place in Yulee. There is a limited number of vaccines right now for the whole county.
“For the beginning of this week, we’re going to be signing up just over 100 people for vaccines. It’s anticipated that through the rest of the week will be signing up several hundred more. It just depends on how much supplies the Department of Health in Nassau County can get and how quickly we can get those vaccines out,” Foster said.
