Jacksonville FL — This Monday, officials out at Naval Station Mayport will begin the annual hurricane exercise which helps prepare the base in case a storm heads to Northeast Florida.  “HURREX 22″ runs from April 18th through the 29th and will focus on things like disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and operation according to the Emergency Operation Center Manager Nelson Anestor.

“How to tie down the ships, how to get them prepared, how to put out sandbags and different things like that to hunker down,” Anestor says.

We’re told the training will also let military families know how to evacuate and get back on base without spending a lot of money.

According to the latest forecast from Colorado State University, this year’s hurricane season in the Atlantic basin is forecast to be “above average”.
