Jacksonville, FL — Two people set a veteran’s garbage bin on fire while he and his wife were home. A neighbor caught it all on camera just before the fire spread to the house. But the neighborhood is still uneasy not knowing who did it.

“My family would’ve died from that, and that’s totally unacceptable, and we cannot tolerate that,” explains Ed Callao.

The Navy veteran and his wife were sitting down eating dinner when he got a terrifying call from his neighbor John Miller.

“I called Ed real quick and told him, ‘Hey, there’s something on fire out front,'” explains Miller.

Callao explains, “The flame was above the roof of my garage.”

Luckily, neighbors down the street rushed to Callao’s home with a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.

Thankfully, no one was hurt and the house didn’t catch on fire, but the most unsettling part about it all was what they found on Miller’s security footage.

In the video, you can see two young men stop at Callao’s driveway, light something on fire and then place it in his garbage bin.

"There was no hesitation, and they waited to make sure the thing was in flames the way they wanted,” adds Callao.

He says it was deliberate, and since he doesn’t know who did it, he no longer feels safe in his own home.

“Right now before I go to bed, I have to peek out my windows every night and then I have to walk around and make sure everything is quiet in my front yard.”

He and his neighbors just want answers.

Callao says, “Is this a kind of joke that you’re ready to ruin somebody’s life who works so hard to have a home of their own?”
