New human cases of West Nile reported in Duval and Nassau counties

Jacksonville, FL — Health officials have issued mosquito-borne illness alerts for Duval and Nassau counties, following new confirmed human cases of West Nile.

Concerned that more people will get sick, the Florida Department of Health advises residents to continue basic precautions to protect themselves from mosquito bites, including draining any standing water around the house and wearing long-sleeves, pants and socks.

Health officials say residents should apply mosquito repellent and make sure all doors and windows in the house have screens.

According to DOH officials, in recent months, this is the second confirmed human case of West Nile in Nassau County, and the fourth in Duval.

You can find more information about mosquito-borne diseases on the DOH's website.
