Jacksonville, FL — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says they've wrapped up their investigation, after one of their officers shot a dog.

According to JSO, the officer was responding to a home on December 19th, where an alarm system had been activated. Police say the individuals in the home were unable to provide the proper security code to cancel the alarm, prompting an investigation.

During the officer's investigation, JSO says the officer came into contact with a dog and was being chased. As this was unfolding, police say the officer was forced to shoot the dog, due to fear for his safety.

JSO says the body worn camera footage confirms the officer’s account of the incident.
