'Open for business': JTA seeking unsolicited proposals for transit-oriented developments on five of its properties

Jacksonville, FL — "Open for business"-- it's the message from the Jacksonville Transportation Authority as they're now seeking unsolicited proposals to develop five properties across town.

Specifically, JTA says it's wanting to partner with local leaders, developers, and those in the private sector to build what they're calling 'Transit-Oriented Developments.'

JTA says 'Transit-Oriented Developments' are about encouraging the development of high-density, mixed use projects that are built near public transportation hubs or stations. These types of developments also put more emphasis on pedestrian needs, including wider sidewalks, bike lanes, and smarter intersections.

CEO Nathaniel Ford Sr. discussed these type of developments during JTA's State of the Authority earlier this month, as he believes it will create a better life for Jacksonville residents.

"By partnering with the development community, we can enhance the quality of life for our citizens and create vibrant, livable, mixed-use communities with easy access to transportation," said Ford Sr.

JTA's five properties open for TOD-related bids, include:

1. Avenues Walk Park-n-Ride Center

2. Golfair Station

3. Kings Avenue Station

4. Rosa Parks Transit Station

5. Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center at LaVilla
